This sweet boy turned 3 today! Another year older and we just love him more and more.
You make us laugh every day. You are so verbal, talking in very long, complete sentences. You say the silliest and the smartest things. You are keenly aware of what is going on around you and don’t miss a thing. I love the way you talk about Emma and Mason as “my brother and my sister.” As in, “what are my brother and my sister doing right now?” Or, “is my brother and my sister being naughty?” For such a talkative guy at home, you are very shy everywhere else. You don’t say a single word in the nursery at church or when someone you don’t really know tries to talk to you.
You love to follow your brother and sister around. You chase them up and down the road while they are riding their bikes. You squirt them with squirt guns, knock over their lego creations and basically get right in the middle of whatever they are doing. Depending on the minute, they either love this or hate this. You love being outside. You will play in water or dig in mud for hours. You really love playing baseball or kicking a soccer ball. Of all my kids you are the least afraid of the playground or park equipment and will try just about anything.
We celebrated your birthday (and your brother’s) with a family hike and picnic with the grandparents and cousins. You were a great hiker, hiking the entire way up hill, then wanting to be carried and eventually falling asleep back downhill. You love spicy foods, including pickled garlic and crystallized ginger. You love all breakfast foods and hardly eat any dinner unless it’s spaghetti.
You love to look at books, listen to books, and make up your own stories. You love to snuggle with your blanket and stuffed animals. You really are such a sweet, funny boy and we love you so much! Happy Birthday!
It’s apple time around here. Somehow we thought it would be a good idea to get 100 pounds of these babies. So, after a day of apple sauce, dehydrating apple slices, and canning apple slices our pantry is a bit fuller. The kids were a huge help. And the chickens were happy with all the leftovers.
We’re mostly just thankful to be home doing regular homestead chores after being evacuated for a week due to a large forest fire about a mile from our house. It’s still burning, (away from us) so prayers would be appreciated!
We spent the day with Nana and Grammie and Grandpa down at the creek. The kids had so much fun exploring, playing in the water, and having a picnic. Emma was all about the caterpillars. I think she found 3 different ones and spent a great deal of time playing with them. Mason and Kona were more into the sticks and rocks. He is starting a dam in the creek and Kona was doing her best to take out every single stick he put in.
Once Caleb warmed up to the water, we couldn’t keep him out. He was also hamming it up for the camera.
Such a great summer day with family!
Happy Birthday Caleb! It’s really hard to believe you are two today! To say this year has flown by is an understatement.
We love your sweet smile and endless giggles and even those crazy screams. You sure are a loud one. Probably because you are constantly competing with your older brother and sister.
You got your first haircut about a week ago. You loved it. You watched Mason go first. Then I may have bribed you with jelly beans, but they weren’t really necessary. The whole time you kept saying, “hair…floor….hair…floor.”
You amaze us every day with all you are learning. You learn new words all the time. You love to follow Mason and Emma and try everything that they do. You go full force whatever may come.
You love to be outside. You usually are pretty good about keeping your hat on, but you choose a different one every time we go out. You know exactly what you want and have a bit of a stubborn streak. You are also super cuddly, especially with daddy.
You love to count things: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 10 is always the sequence. You love to play with the kitchen and work bench that Grandpa made. You love to play with balls and shovels. You play very differently depending on if you’re playing with Emma or Mason, which is fun to watch. You still take one nap a day. You love baths and brushing your teeth. You go down to sleep like a pro. You make us smile every single day.
You bring us so much joy and we love you so very much. Happy Birthday!
We’re enjoying a little snow day here on the homestead. It just keeps falling and we just keep making more coffee.
The kids are traveling back and forth between our house and the neighbor’s house.
The ducks have even ventured out to see what’s going on. The chickens? Not so much.
It finally feels more like winter around here.
It seemed like time for a little update on the littlest guy in the family. Long gone are the monthly posts of that first year….it’s hard to believe we’re heading towards the big 2!
Caleb, you are learning and changing so much every day we can hardly keep up with you. New words keep popping out of your mouth and Ryan and I just stare at each other in disbelief that you are talking so much. Water, chicken, kitty, and milk still require our secret decoding parenting skills but other words are as clear as can be: see, cold, grandpa, more, and just today at lunch: right!
Emma is memma and Mason is some combo of daddy/brother/maymay.
You are really good at understanding what we are saying to you. You will go get your shoes, throw things away, find your blanket, pick up your toys, and recently tell us you went potty (say what?)
You love to be outside and play with your toys. You love to have your hair combed. You are still super snuggly. You are the first one up in the mornings and usually start right in on a banana or some yogurt. You love to help carry in firewood. You are very observant of others around you and are the first to give a hug to someone who’s hurt or go get a towel when you spill something. You love to look at books and have them read to you.
We love you Caleb buddy. We’re looking forward to everything you will take on this year and are cherishing these last few baby moments before you get too big!
Here’s a little bit of what we’ve been up to over here. We cut down a monster of a Christmas tree. It looked so much smaller out in the forest. But it’s all decked out and we’re loving it. Emma’s favorite thing is to turn off all the lights and just “look at it until we fall asleep.” Which we haven’t actually done (the falling asleep part), but it’s fun to plan I suppose.
Our house has been full of imaginative play this week. I’m listening in to all the castle building and pirate shipping and lego creating while finishing up some last minute sewing and knitting.
They spent most of one day with the blocks. Caleb was mostly not helping so they took turns pushing him around the house in a box which he absolutely loved.
I hope your house is full of laughter too! Merry Christmas!
