10 months

IMG_2215Happy 10 months sweet Caleb!  You got to share your 10 month milestone with Emma’s 4th birthday.  Emma insisted on having a “Strawberry Shortcake – Caleb” birthday for weeks, but it wasn’t really because you were 10 months old.  It was because she wanted to hold you all day long on her birthday.  They do love you, your big brother and sister.

IMG_2208You are definitely all about moving this month.  You hardly stay put anymore.  Even when you are playing with your toys you are so busy pushing/rolling them and then chasing them all around the house.  Your favorite place is in Emma’s room.  She’s not so fond of that and has been keeping her door closed pretty much all day long.  You are starting to sit on your knees more and pull yourself up on occasion.

You pretty much feed yourself now.  You like to hold your spoon and play with it, but don’t really care to be fed.  You still love to eat just about anything we give you.  You are getting better with a cup too.

You sleep through the night as long as you’re not teething or fighting off a cold.  You still only have the two bottom teeth, but those top ones are on their way.  You are most happy with mom or dad, but do great with everyone else as long as you can’t see the aforementioned favorite people.  You are starting to “talk” more and more.  Mostly ba-ba-ba.

IMG_2211For some reason this month really zoomed by.  It seems like just yesterday I was trying to sum up all of your 9-month self.  I’m trying to ignore the fact that you’re going to be one soon.  These tiny moments just need to be bottled up!

At 10 months, Caleb, you:

  • crack up all the time
  • are super wiggly when getting your diaper changed
  • love your baths, but hate to be laid down in the water
  • love to tap on things with your hands or toys
  • take 2 naps
  • love to ride in the car
  • also love to go for walks
  • follow Emma and Mason all around
  • get a little scared of Daisy if she gets too close
  • giggle when you’re bounced or tossed in the air
  • can destroy any just-picked-up room in seconds
  • are still long and skinny (I love you’re little chicken arms!)
  • just fill us up with love!

IMG_2198You are just too much, Caleb!  We love, love you sweet boy!

IMG_2225It’s really  hard to believe this sweet girl is four.  Seriously.  How did four years just fly by?  It’s sure been a whirlwind of adventure! IMG_2219 Emma-girl we just love so much about you.  You are just as feisty as ever.   We joke that the line from a country song “sunshine mixed with a little hurricane” pretty much sums you up.  We love your endless energy and cheerful face.  We find ourselves trying to navigate this whole parenting thing with your strong will and surprise emotions.  We always end the day with hugs and laughs at your antics though.   IMG_2231

Some of your favorite things right now include your bear blanket and baby doll.  You love cowgirl boots and twirly skirts.  You love to be outside, except for those silly hennies and that rooster.  You bring your rooster-gettin’ umbrella out to protect you.  You love your brothers too.  Playing with Mason and taking care of Caleb consume much of your day.  You love to wave at the window whenever anyone leaves.  And you still love to be held.

You have a knack for procrastination.  It takes you a loooong time to get dressed, but you love to do it all by yourself.  You look at every single pair of pants, dresses, and skirts you own before making a choice.  Then you look at all your shirts.  Then it’s the accessories.  You have a quirky sense of style that we love.  You can also drag out bedtime with the best of them.  We sing a song and pray and then you have to tell me oh-so-many-important-things before I can get out of your room.  I do love your wrap around the neck hugs and sweet snuggles.

Most mornings when we ask how you slept you reply with “I didn’t sleep at ALL!”  And you’ve also been known to shovel food into our mouth while saying, “I don’t really like this, but I guess I’ll eat it.”  You do eat most things though. You don’t care for oranges, cantaloupe, or peaches but everything else is fair game.  Your favorites are mac and cheese, applesauce, spaghetti, and fried eggs.

You love to sing and dance.  You make up lots of songs and ballet moves.  You also love to play with your kitchen, build with legos, and draw and color.  You know all your letters and numbers and will write up all sorts of lists and letters to people.  You are really good at putting together puzzles.  You crack us up with the words you use.  Your play is definitely influenced by having an older brother.  Most games turn into some sort of hunting, battle, or some other endeavor where you need your sword.  IMG_2247

You are learning so much about everything around you.  You are a constant joy to us.  These past four years have been nothing short of blessing after blessing with you.  We love you more than you will ever know.

one egg, two egg

Check out this egg! IMG_20150301_175857We have a little henny (as Emma calls them) that is laying some huge eggs.  They hardly fit in the egg carton.  They usually have a double yolk.  The fun just never ends with these birds. IMG_20150301_180019_edit IMG_20150301_175944_editWe seemed to have chose poorly with the rooster that we decided to keep.  He’s quite the mean fellow.  So, it looks like we’ll be butchering one more.  It’s almost time to order more meat birds, so we’ll try again.  Oh, the chicken drama.

nine months

imageThis last week got away from us and I’m just a little late on this post.  Between dinner with friends, family birthday parties and report cards and assessments at school, here we are arriving at nine months and one week.   imageCaleb, we say this every month, but we love watching you grow up so much.  You are such a delight.  You are still such a happy, squealing baby.  And there’s lots of squeals if anyone tries to take you away from mama.  You are in that clingy stage that I love, but makes for some awkward moments with other friends and family members. imageYour favorite things these days are playing with your toys and eating.  You love to pick up all your toys and put them in your little toy box and take them back out again.  You are learning to turn pages in books (and tear out a few…) and push all the different buttons on your toys that fill our house with sound. You’ve definitely become mobile this month.  You spent the first half doing some inch worm moves.  You would get up on all fours and then lunge forward landing on your belly and then do it again. Just this week you finally figured out the crawling-for-real thing.  You have mastered going from laying down to sitting up.  Often when we come into your room now you are sitting up in your crib, which still catches me by surprise. Oh, and the eating.  For such a little guy, you sure can pack it in.  You mostly feed yourself now and are gradually moving on from the homemade baby food to more table foods.  You eat a solid three meals a day and I’m not sure where you put it in your tiny 17 pound body (ringing in at the 5th percentile.)  I guess you burn a lot of calories with all you’re busy doing. imageYou’re a little magnet for your brother and sister who can’t seem to stay away from you.  You’re starting to tell them how you feel with your screams and giggles.  It’s hit or miss on whether they can cheer you up or send you into a fit.  They sure do love you though.  Just this morning, you woke up and were sitting in your crib fussing.  Mason read you his Bible and sang you songs to your delight. And Emma’s the ultimate “helper.” image At 9 months, you:

  • are 28 inches long and weigh just over 17 pounds
  • love the car
  • take two naps
  • mostly sleep through the night
  • love eggs, fruit, vegetables, oatmeal and cottage cheese
  • are constantly pulling me and Emma’s hair and jewelry
  • can get anywhere you want to go
  • love to cuddle up on our shoulders
  • watch what Emma and Mason are up to
  • wave your arms and legs when you get really excited
  • smile and giggle
  • clap
  • love to splash in the bath tub

We love you so much Caleb.  It’s hard to believe we’re heading towards that first year mark. xoxo, mommy
